The owner of three Subway restaurants in ɫ has been charged for failing to pay his employees, police say.
The ɫ Department of Public Safety said warrants have been issued for nine counts of worthless checks for William Albert Parrish, of 301 Louise Ave., Valdese, according to a Friday release from public safety. The release said more charges are pending in the case.
The charges come after Parrish was expected to pay his former employees by Thursday. Lt. Nick Edwards said Friday that 10 employees have not been paid but that number could change.

The release said investigators spoke with Parrish about the incidents and he said there was a resolution in place and that employees would be paid the following week. On Thursday, investigators contacted Parrish again and discovered that no resolution was reached and employees had still not been paid, the release said.
The ɫ Subway locations at 100 E. Fleming Drive, 107 Independence Blvd. and 1255-A Burkemont Ave., Space 22, are closed. Subway corporate said Parrish is no longer a part of its system and does not operate any Subway restaurants.
The stores closed in late June.
Three Subway employees filed a report with ɫ Department of Public Safety on July 2, for obtaining property by false pretense at the Burkemont Avenue Subway location.
The ɫ Department of Public Safety said it began receiving reports of unpaid wages from Subway restaurant employees in early July.
During the investigation it was determined that payroll checks of some employees were not being paid due to insufficient funds.
