Last week, Burke Rescue responded to multiple heat-related emergencies, including two along Pinch-in Trail and another near Chimney Gap in the Linville Gorge area, according to a Burke Rescue Inc. and SAR Facebook post.
Burke Rescue said in each case, hikers were suffering from symptoms such as cramps, weakness and vomiting, signs of heat exhaustion and dehydration.
“We know how tempting it is to get outside and explore, but extreme heat and humidity can take a serious toll — even on experienced hikers,” Burke Rescue said. “Please try to avoid hiking during the hottest parts of the day, and listen to your body if it’s telling you to slow down or turn back.”

“We want everyone to enjoy the outdoors and get home safely,” the Burke Rescue post on Sunday said. “Stay cool, stay hydrated, and take care out there.”
On July 7-8, Burke Rescue said it responded to three search and rescues in the Pisgah National Forest and within the Linville Gorge. One man died in a rappelling accident at Steele Creek Falls.
