The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that scheduled flight capacity will be reduced by 10% starting November 7 at 40 busy air traffic hubs if the government shutdown continues. The agency said the move was needed to ensure travel safety, as air traffic controllers have been under growing strain during the shutdown. This cutback is expected to impact thousands of flights nationwide, as the FAA oversees over 44,000 flights daily, including commercial passenger flights and cargo planes. However, the agency did not specify which airports or cities would be affected, with cancellations potentially impacting between 3,500 and 4,000 flights each day. Industry sources told Reuters that the FAA indicated capacity reductions will begin at 4%, increase to 5% the next day, then 6%, before reaching 10% at the start of the following week.
