Appalachian Mountain Brewery has locations in Boone and Mills River. Old Fort will be the third location. Ian Salzberg, marketing director for the brewing company, confirmed the plans.

Salzberg said the brewing company will open a restaurant and distillery in a portion of the Parker Hosiery building on Catawba Avenue. The opening is scheduled for July.

Salzberg said it was too soon to announce the specifics about the restaurant, the type of food it will serve or the kinds of beverages the distillery will produce. He added the Old Fort location will have a different name and not be called Appalachian Mountain Brewery.

“I can’t really share more about the concept at the moment, but it will be a full restaurant and distillery,” he said.

Salzberg said he would share more as plans for the business are finalized.

Under state law, a distillery can operate in Old Fort as long as it serves beverages that are made there.

This change allowed Hillman Beer and Whaley Farm Brewing to open their locations in Old Fort, even though town voters did not approve the sale of alcohol. It is still not legal to purchase alcohol in a store in Old Fort. Breweries and distilleries can only serve the products they make.

Appalachian Mounting Brewery is also one of the beverage sponsors for the first annual Spring FUNdraiser at Camp Grier in Old Fort on Saturday, April 12.
