On Sunday, about 75 people from across Burke County gathered in Valdese for the first annual Purrs & Paws on Main, a Christmas-themed fundraiser organized by the Burke County Animal Services Foundation Inc. — a local nonprofit that supports the Burke County Animal Shelter and its many lifesaving programs.

Oliver the rescue pup and his owner Tim Hartney were doing their part to raise money for homeless pets at the first annual Purrs and Paws on Main fundraiser. The event raised more than $5,000.
