State and federal law enforcement agencies are working on a Burke County death investigation following a Sunday fire where two people were found dead.
Michael Curtis Hallyburton, 63, of ɫ, was found dead at the fire scene on Swink Street on Sunday afternoon, Burke County Sheriff Robert Hinceman said in a news release at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
A second victim was also found but not identified. Hinceman said the identity is pending an autopsy.

The SBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were at the scene on Tuesday, according to the State Bureau of Investigation. The agencies are working with the Burke County Sheriff's Office on the investigation, Flowers said. An agent with the State Bureau of Investigation arson team was sent to help process the scene.
Autopsies on both victims are scheduled to happen at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem on Wednesday, Flowers said Tuesday.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed the number of deaths or if foul play was involved. The identities of the victims have not been released as of 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Burke County Government issued an initial news release on Facebook shortly after 4 p.m. on Sunday. Burke County officials have not released any additional information as of 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Burke County Government said multiple fire and law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, including the Burke County Sheriff’s Office and the Burke County Fire Marshal’s Office.
The release said multiple dogs were found at the scene and taken by Burke County Animal Services. The county did not say how many dogs were found or if any were injured.
