Emma Hurley Martin, 96, of Granite Falls, NC, passed away, Thursday, May 1, 2025. Born on November 16, 1928, to Arden and Vera Hurley. Emma spent most of her life in ¶®É«µÛ, NC, where she worked twenty years at Skyland Textile and 20 years at Broughton Hospital from which she retired as an LPN in 1988.
Those left to cherish her memory include son, James Lee Martin, Jr. of Hickory, NC; daughter, Helen Johnson (Ralph) of Newland, NC; grandsons, Thad Johnson (Laura), Cale Johnson (Joanna), Clint Johnson (Katie), Ellis Martin (Olivia), Andrew Martin (Ali); great-grandsons, Reid Johnson, Hank Johnson, Webb Johnson, Slade Martin, Finn Martin; sister, Clara Tomlison, of ¶®É«µÛ, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James Lee Martin; sisters, Juanita Wooten and Elizabeth Melton.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Grace Village Assisted Living in Granite Falls and Trinity Ridge Skilled Nursing in Hickory for the professional and compassionate care they provided for mom.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at Mount Home Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mount Home Baptist Church, 2272, Mt. Home Church Road, ¶®É«µÛ, NC 28655.
