Juneteenth Celebration
The NAACP Burke County Unit will host a Juneteenth Celebration from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at CoMMA, 401 S. College St., ɫ. This is a free event with performances scheduled from 4Ever Faithful, Exodus Missionary Outreach Choir, Evolve Praise Dance Team and DJ Bruce. Food, games and education are all planned for the celebration.
Homebuyer Education Class
Olive Hill Community Economic Development Corporation will host a homebuyer education class from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 200 S. College St., Suite A, ɫ. Prices are $35 for individuals or $55 for couples. The course includes HUD-approved certification and eligibility screening for financial assistance programs.

The Lake James Community Center, near Lake James Fire Rescue on N.C. 126, will host free bingo from 6-9 p.m. Hot foods including fish, fries and hot dogs will be able for purchase to eat in or take to go. Door prize drawings will be held throughout the night and you must be present to win.

Olive Hill Community Economic Development Corporation will be held from 6-9 p.m. on the old courthouse square in downtown ɫ. The event will celebrate diverse local talent, legacy artists and vibrant expressions of music, dance, poetry and performance.

AARP meeting
Burke County Chapter 3262 of the AARP will welcome McKenzie Bostian from the Western Piedmont Community College Foundation. The meeting will start at 9:30 a.m. in the lower level of the Collett Street Recreation Center, 300 Collett St., ɫ, with snacks and chatting until 10 a.m. A sign-up sheet also will be available for anyone who would like to bring a dessert to the chapter’s cookout on Aug. 6.
