A man who police say stole a U-Haul in ɫ is being held on Catawba County charges.

Dylan Scott Smith, 23, who does not have a home, was charged with felony insurance fraud greater than $100,000 and two counts of felony obtain property under false pretense in Burke County, according to a release from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said Smithwas arrested on Aug. 5 after deputies stopped a stolen U-Haul van reported out of ɫ. Smith was taken to the Burke County Magistrate’s Office, where he was served with outstanding warrants from Catawba County, the release said.
Smith was put on Burke County’s Most Wanted List on July 10. He’s facing a slew of charges in both Burke and Catawba counties, according to court records.
He was placed on hold pending transport to the Catawba County Jail, with a court date in Catawba County on Monday for two counts of felony obtaining property by false pretense, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods/property and misdemeanor aid and abet larceny. He also has a court date on Sept. 8 for misdemeanor second-degree trespassing and a court date on Sept. 26 for misdemeanor resisting a public officer.
He also has a court date on Oct. 3 in Burke County for numerous traffic violations, as well as felony possession of schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
In Caldwell County, he has a court date for Sept. 22 for misdemeanor larceny.
His next court date on his latest Burke County charges is set for Nov. 20, according to court records.
