Two children have been killed, and at least 17 people were injured in a shooting at the Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara has confirmed. O’Hara stated that the children who died were ages eight and 10, and their parents have been informed, adding that the gunman, who was wearing all-black apparel, “ultimately took his own life.”  Of those injured, 14 are children, and two are still in critical condition in local hospitals, O’Hara added. According to Thomas Wyatt, Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Hennepin Healthcare, four of the 11 patients received by the hospital required surgery.  Wyatt added that nine of the patients brought in to Hennepin were children, while two were adults. According to O’Hara, the suspect was armed with a “rifle, shotgun, and pistol” and was in his early 20s, with no extensive criminal record. Police believe the gunman approached from outside the side of the building and started firing a rifle through the church windows at the children sitting in the pews during a mass.  A vehicle suspected of belonging to the shooter has been found at the church and is being searched.
