In 2023, Republicans in Congress booed Biden when he exposed their plans to cut Medicare and Social Security. Now, despite promises from Republicans, their tax and spending bill would cut Medicare by $535 billion by 2034, according to estimates from the Congressional Budget Office. And while the bill wouldn’t directly cut Social Security, experts warn it could accelerate the depletion of the Social Security Trust Fund — which would automatically lead to a 24% cut in benefits for all recipients.
